He is a physicist working with fusion plasma collisionalities and processes related to interactions with the plasma and the fusion reactor wall. Prior joining IAEA, he was Plasma-wall Interaction Physicist for several years at Joint European Torus (JET) located south of Oxford, United Kingdom.
Kalle has been awarded the Academy Research Fellowship of Academy of Finland. He has the title of docent in physics at University of Helsinki, Finland. He was appointed as the Sub-project Leader and Board Member for EUROfusion work package responsible for JET plasma-facing components and materials analyses.
Kalle is a committee member for international fusion workshops and schools and has given talks around the world on topics ranging from experimental JET results to multi-scale modelling of plasma-surface processes.
